Adhesive Products
Contractors and fabricators alike recognize Smalley & Company
as a source for quality adhesive products. If you need an economy-grade
construction mastic, a high-grade industrial epoxy, or anything
in between - we have them all. Let us help you choose from one
of the following.
Aerosol
Convenience, speed, and real work power is what you get with
an aerosol adhesive. These job-matched formulations are packaged
in self-contained applicators that allow you to avoid the expense
of complex spray equipment. Aerosol adhesives bond a wide variety
of substrates reliably and cost effectively.
Suppliers:
3M, Camie
Anaerobic
Commonly referred to as threadlockers, these one-part adhesives
remain liquid until isolated from oxygen in the presence of metal
ions, such as iron or copper.
They are a cost effective and
superior alternative to lock washers, locking threads, and studs.
They prevent loosening due to vibration or thermal expansion on
all metal threaded fasteners and provide corrosion resistant seals.
Suppliers: 3M
Construction
This group of adhesives is commonly referred to as mastics and
they are usually a one-part product. Made of asphalt, synthetic
rubber or urethane, construction adhesives are used to adhere
tile, floor moldings, mirrors, drywall, foam and wood.
Available in solvent and water-base versions, “mastics” are often
used in conjunction with mechanical fasteners to hold parts in
place while the mastic sets.
Suppliers: Bostik, DAP, OSI, Sonneborn, TACC
Contact
Cement
Contact cement is the term given to film layers of adhesive
that feel dry to the touch yet bond together on contact. These
products are used to bond a wide variety of substrates where
a thin bond line is needed such as in laminating counter and
table tops. Available in solvent and water-base formulas, contact
cements can be brushed, rolled or sprayed.
Suppliers:
3M, DAP, H.B. Fuller, TACC
Cyanoacrylate
Commonly referred to as “super glue”, these one-part
adhesives are known for their rapid strength buildup. With handling
strength between 5 - 10 seconds and 80% of full strength in
one hour, a single drop of these adhesives can bond plastics,
rubber, metal and more with tensile strength up to 5,000 PSI.
Suppliers:
3M
Epoxy
Epoxies are used in non-structural and structural bonding
applications. “Structural” refers to a bond that is often stronger
than the structural integrity of the parts being bonded. These
high strength adhesives are oftentimes used in load-bearing
situations in lieu of mechanical fasteners and welding. They
provide clear lines, more durability and often cost less.
Suppliers:
3M, W.A. Hardman
Hot
Melt
Hot melt adhesives are solvent-free thermoplastic resins that
become fluid when heated. Upon cooling, they harden to form
a strong bond to many surfaces. Most of the bond strength is
achieved in seconds often eliminating the need for clamps.
Suppliers:
3M, Bostik, H. B. Fuller
Industrial
Industrial adhesives provide solutions to a wide variety of nonstructural
bonding problems. Some formulations are tailored for
specific types of applications. For example, plastic adhesives
bond vinyl and many other plastics to themselves. Rubber and
gasket adhesives can easily bond neoprene, EPDM,
and many
more.
Suppliers: 3M, Eclectic, Hardcast
Tape
Tape is often overlooked as an adhesive, but it can be used
in bonding applications from a lightweight repositionable job
to a heavy-duty structural application. Tapes are solvent free
and easy to handle requiring no clean up since they do not ooze
or flow like an uncured adhesive. Tapes can also be die-cut
into shapes and sizes for neat manual and automated applications.
Suppliers:
3M, Arlon, Norton, Shuford, Velcro
White
Glue
White glue is a high strength, fast bonding utility adhesive
that dries clear. It is designed to provide thin film bonds
on most porous and semi-porous materials such as wood, leather,
cloth and cardboard.
Suppliers:
DAP
Yellow
Glue
Commonly referred to as “carpenter’s glue”,
yellow glue provides a fast setting, heat and water-resistant
bond on most porous and non-porous materials. Yellow glue is
resistant to oil, grease, gasoline and paint solvents. Woodworkers
prefer yellow to white glue because it can be sanded without
“gumming-up”.
Suppliers:
DAP
